Information You Can Use

Our mission revolves around lasting growth. We are fortunate to be supported by a community that strives to provide the best resources, opportunities, and events for Individuals with IDD to help accomplish that mission.

Here, we’ve compiled some of the resources our Host Home Providers use to foster growth in the Individuals in their care. If you know of additional resources, information, or events that should be added to this library, please contact us.

Family Caregiver Option

We help guide families through their choices for providing care for their IDD children who are 18 and over. In 2008, Colorado established the Family Caregiver Act, which provides broader choices for Individuals who are already receiving services funded by the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF), in terms of where and from whom services are received. Eligible family members who meet state requirements can be paid for providing this care. Learn more about the Family Caregiver Act.

Colorado ABLE Helps IDD Individuals Save While Retaining Benefits

Individuals with certain disabilities can enroll in Colorado ABLE (Coloradans Achieving a Better Life Experience) – a savings and investment program – without losing Medicaid and SSI benefits. Eligibility to enroll in Colorado ABLE is based on meeting certain conditions. Learn about all the benefits and how to quality.

Tips for Planning a Trip with Your IDD Individual

Integrating IDD Individuals into the mainstream and giving them opportunities to expand their horizons might include travel. We are fortunate in Colorado to have many beautiful, historical, and outdoor adventure destinations nearby. Check out some tips to help you start planning if you’re considering a trip.

Transportation Options

Via operates a dozen public transit services in Colorado including the City of Boulder’s HOP. Groups can also hire Via for one-time or ongoing trips. Via Mobility Services also offers older adults and people with disabilities a way to get from one place to another through the Via Paratransit program, a shared-ride, accessible transportation service. Caring drivers escort riders door-through-door and assist them on and off the bus. Learn more about Via’s transportation option.

Free Wireless and Lifeline Assistance Program

Assurance Wireless is a federal Lifeline Assistance program. Enrollment is available to individuals who qualify based on federal or state-specific eligibility criteria and are already participating in certain public assistance programs. The program includes a free cell phone plus talk, text, and data. Visit the website to find out if you or your IDD loved one qualify.

Colorado Family Respite Vouchers

The Colorado Respite Coalition’s Self-Directed Family Respite Voucher Program provides funds for respite care to family caregivers serving all ages and extensive health care needs across the state. The program is a resource for unserved and underserved family caregivers who have limited access to respite care and/or other supports through current systems. Get details and learn how to apply for the Colorado Family Respite Voucher.
