Nutritional and Health Challenges and Solutions for IDD Individuals

Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) face some health and nutritional challenges more frequently than those without IDD. An awareness of those increased risks and their symptoms can equip family members and caregivers to help those in their care stay safe and healthy. Check out this valuable information along with tips for preventing problems and building a foundation for good health.

One of the most important aspects of good health is nutrition. A common challenge with IDD adults is balancing food preferences with healthy food choices. This article provides
suggestions for hands-on, nutrition learning activities like cooking and games that reinforce good nutrition choices and motivate Individuals to take care of themselves.

“I Am….” – Gifts of Diversity

We all want to be seen and appreciated for who we are and what makes us unique. In a world that can be judgmental, that can be challenging, especially for Individuals with a noticeable disability. Yet self-esteem and acceptance by others is foundational to mental health.

“See Me for Me” is a theme we live every day in support of the Individuals we serve. Perfect examples of Evergreen’s hope and vision, we salute those we serve for having the courage to share who they are with the world – an inspiring example for us all.

Planning a Vacation for this Summer?

Integrating IDD individuals into the mainstream and giving them opportunities to expand their horizons might include travel. We are fortunate in Colorado to have many beautiful, historical, and outdoor adventure destinations nearby. Check out these tips to help you start planning if you’re considering a summer trip.
